FKU is the Seattle branch of the International Karate Federation. The following is taken largely from Karate-Do: The Way of Shito-Ryu by Del Saito (Grants Pass, OR: Osprey Publications, 1991, page 7): The president and founder of the International Karate Federation is Sensei Chuzo Kotaka. Sensei Kotaka holds the rank of eighth dan and makes his home in Hawaii. He was born in Osaka, Japan and first began training in karate at age seven. He studied under Genryu Kimura and Shogo Kuniba (Kuniba is the son of the founder of the Seishinkai Karate School). Sensei Kotaka won the All Japan Karate Championship Title, the most prestigious karate tournament in Japan, in 1962. In 1966 he moved to Hawaii and established the IKF, which now operates several schools in Hawaii and has affiliates on the mainland (in Grants Pass, Sacramento, Yakima and Seattle). For more information, contact the IKF at 7231 Nuulolo Street, Honolulu HI 96825, or phone (808)-395-1774 or -7748. |
